EDUCATION NOT INCARCERATION

Our mission is to empower young Black and Brown women by providing them with the tools, education, and support they need to become successful and productive members of society, thereby reducing the risk of incarceration.

The Justice Reinvestment Equity Program (JREP) in Oregon, established by Senate Bill 1510 in 2022, funds this WomenFirst program.

How womenfirst empowers girls 12-18 to stay in school

Shannon Olive, founder and director of WomenFirst Transition and Referral Center, discusses their work in aiding women transitioning from prison and overcoming addiction and trauma. Currently operating in Multnomah and Clackamas, they plan to expand to Marian, Yamhill, and Washington County, targeting young girls aged 12-18 to reduce violence and criminal justice involvement. Assistant Director Onnie Allen highlights the transformative impact of their programs, fostering a supportive family environment and personal growth among participants. The organization's mission focuses on service and support, with a commitment to helping others at its core.
